Amendments to Constitution and Bylaws

Phi Beta Kappa members who attend the Annual Meeting on November 22, 2025, will vote on amendments to the Constitution and Bylaws of the Greater Detroit Association. On October 11, 2025, the Association’s elected leaders (the Board) approved revisions to the 2004 version of the Constitution and Bylaws in order to coincide with current practices and to expand the Association’s outreach.

Following is a summary of the proposed amendments to the Constitution and Bylaws:

(1) Officially change the association’s name from Detroit Association of Phi Beta Kappa to Phi Beta Kappa Greater Detroit Association

(2) Change the name of our leadership team from Executive Committee to Board of Directors

(3) Expand the eligibility to join the Greater Detroit Association from metro Detroit to all Phi Beta Kappa members

(4) Limit the number of persons who can serve on the Board of Directors to 15

(5) Provide the option to candidates for board positions to commit to a one-year or a two-year term

(6) Revise tasks assigned to officers to match the Board’s current practices
